Gin and Cherry Cocktail

I was going to make festive 4th of July cookies but then I came into some cherries. Like, A LOT of cherries. Like, a weird amount of cherries. So, I thought to myself, “What’s more American than cherries? And I have a jug of gin! WHAT’S MORE AMERICAN THAN GIN AND CHERRIES??”

CHERRIESI will admit, this drink was inspired by a cocktail the boyfriend made the night before with… gin and cherries. His was a take on an Old Fashioned where it gets better as the ice melts. I added seltzer water to mine for a more refreshing, summery, drink-it-up taste. Make this by the glass or if you’re throwing a party and don’t have time to play bartender, make it in a pitcher!

Recipe for one 10 to 12 oz glass

  • 2 sweet cherries, de-stemmed & pitted
  • 2 to 3 ice cubes
  • 1 1/2 oz Gin (your favorite one)
  • 1/4 to 1/2 oz lime juice
  • Seltzer water

Muddle cherries in glass to get that sweet, sweet juice. Add ice, gin, and lime, stir. Top off with seltzer water and garnish with cherry.

Recipe for pitcher, serves 4-5

  • 1 cup cherries, de-stemmed & pitted
  • 2 cups Gin
  • 1/4 cup lime juice
  • Ice
  • Seltzer water

Muddle cherries in pitcher to get that sweet, sweet juice. Add gin and lime, stir. Refrigerate ’til serving time. When ready to serve, pour 1/4 cup into glass with ice and top off with seltzer water. Yay!

*NOTE*  If you feel like your batch of cherries isn’t sweet enough, add a splash of simple syrup to your drink. Problem solved.
